Texas Revolution Essay Essays - Mexico, Antonio Lpez De Santa Anna
Texas Revolution Essay Have you at any point accomplished something exclusively to assemble or spare your pride? In the Texas Revolution a solid and glad general named Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna fixed command over Texas so as to repopulate Texas with Mexicans, since the overwhelming race had become non-Mexicans. This war began as little disengaged conflicts, however in the end broke out into full-scale defiance. So as to end these regular rebellions, Santa Anna drove his few thousand Mexican soldiers into the revolutionary controlled San Antonio in February of 1836. The 187 Texas rebels warded off Santa Anna's rehashed assaults, yet on March 6, the Mexican soldiers at long last overran the fortification. Santa Clause Anna's soldiers, who endured more than 1,500 setbacks, followed through on an enormous cost for their triumph. Also that a month and a half later the Texas armed force returned killing more than 630 Mexicans inside 20 minutes and taking their solitary general, Santa Anna as detainee. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna firmly accepted that the level of Mexicans ought to be the prevailing populace. At the point when he discovered that the non-Mexicans exceptionally out numbered the Mexicans, he hurried to fix the control, and close the fringes over Texas. He attempted to give it his best shot to prevent the Texans from procuring their freedom and turning into a non-Mexican commanded state. The Texans emphatically wanted their autonomy and opportunity from the Mexicans. This left them just a single decision, to be industrious. They didn't let one misfortune pull them down, they returned for an unexpected assault on the Mexicans, driving them to their both their opportunity and freedom. I accept that General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna began the Texas Revolution exclusively to pick up control over the Texans and fabricate his own pride. To take a great many Mexican soldiers into a war and have in excess of 1,850 losses; over a war that could have been halted or settled toward the starting when the primary segregated assaults started! This gives me that there clearly was a huge pride issue, with both Santa Anna and the Texans. All in all, The Mexicans began and won the primary fight, ruling the war. In spite of the fact that, the Texans returned a month and a half later to make up for themselves and bring home both their opportunity and freedom from the Mexicans. History

In any case, McGovern won the entirety of California's goliath appointment, and beat Humphrey 44.3% to 39.1% in the mainstream vote.5 That misfortune illuminated the end for Humphrey's Democratic selection. Many felt Edmund Muskie made certain to win the Democratic assignment for the appointment of 1972. Every political spectator conceded to the sureness that Congressperson Edmund Muskie of Maine would be the Democratic party's nominee.1 As the leader, he needed to catch the assignment early as was submitted to running in the entirety of the initial eight presidential primaries. President Nixon realized that Muskie had a decent possibility of winning and felt he needed to plan something for get Muskie out of the race. Nixon had seven men who were faithful to him make up bogus public statements about Muskie, and his better half. He at that point pulled back with nobility. 1 Muskie later said of this episode: It altered individuals' perspectives on me, of what sort of a person I was. Wealthfront 529 Plan Launches
Financial Professional Content Wealthfront officially launched its new 529 plan November 1, 2016. The Wealthfront 529 College Savings Plan (Wealthfront Plan) is sponsored by the State of Nevada with Ascensus Broker Dealer Services, Inc. serving as program manager. Wealthfront serves as an automated investment advisor, designing individual portfolios for each account owner based on the owner's risk assessment and the beneficiary's expected college enrollment date. How does it compare? The Wealthfront Plan is unique in that, while it is technically an advisor-sold plan for which Wealthfront collects a 25 basis point advisory fee, it is not sold by third-party broker-dealer or RIA firms. Its distribution channel is strictly limited to Wealthfront clients, meaning you will need to be registered with Wealthfront in order to open and maintain an account with the Plan. Further, the Plan offers a favorable cost structure, where the advisory fee is waived on the first $10,000 for non-Nevada residents, and the first $25,000 for residents. In fact, if you compare the lowest and highest 10-year expense totals for all direct-sold plans against the Wealthfront Plan, excluding the 25bp advisor fee, the plan is the second lowest-cost plan on average (mean) after New York's direct-sold plan. And when you include the advisor fee it ranks 14th among direct-sold plans. Indeed, for an advisor-sold plan, this is impressive. Initially the Plan operates much like a direct-sold plan, since the investor needs to take the initiative to approach Wealthfront and establish an account. The appeal thereafter is that Wealthfront will manage both the 529 Plan and the investor's non-529 assets in a quantitative manner across accounts and over time. Wealthfront conducts a thorough analysis of its participants' time horizon, risk tolerance, and other factors when building and establishing their portfolios. All-in costs are kept low because the plan utilizes Vanguard and iShares ETFs in its asset allocation models. RELATED: The Wealthfront 529 College Savings Plan: Is college investing with a robo-advisor right for you? What does the Wealthfront Plan mean for human advisors? It's too soon to tell for sure, but the entry of Wealthfront to the 529 space probably represents less of a threat to traditional advisors and more of an expansion in terms of consumer access to professional college savings advice. Indeed, the financial technology behind the first roboadvisors evolved from the pursuit of a more cost-effective method of servicing the mass affluent market, whose smaller account sizes can be more difficult for advisors to manage and grow while collecting a reasonable fee. For decades, the wirehouses have been trying to figure out how to service and support smaller accounts using call centers and discount online brokerages. Today, technology advances are making financial management not only possible, but in some cases preferable for mass affluent investors who want the convenience and control that a provider like Wealthfront can offer. However, for the foreseeable future, traditional advisors whose clients include high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals will still be the bread-and-butter of the financial services industry. A recent survey of affluent investors by Wells Fargo found that seven in 10 viewed their financial advisor's services as important as that of their doctor. Given the complexities of investing, taxes, and the personal issues that impact both, there will always be a need for personalized financial advice with a human element. Waiting For Godot And Dr Strangelove Essay - 1481 Words
ââ¬Å"Significant texts in any period arise from particular ways of thinking and possess an enduring relevance.â⬠Following the dropping of the atomic bombs at the end of World War Two, global consciousness began to slowly change due to the realisation that civilisation could be destroyed at the press of a button. Texts that are able to grasp these changes, depicting their immediate context while also reflecting on universal questions, possess enduring value. Waiting for Godot, the 1952 stage play by Samuel Beckett, challenged the idea of human purpose and also questioned the relevance of scripture and religious institutions. Similarly, Plath, in Ariel, a collection of poems posthumously published in 1965, challenged the same ideas, especiallyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The montage is accompanied by a non-diegetic string arrangement of the song ââ¬Å"Try a Little Tendernessâ⬠. Kubrick specifically creates an overt sexual innuendo to make light of great fear. This fores hadows the rest of the movie where frequent sexual themes and comedic tropes are utilised to undermine previously unquestioned figures of authority. Beckettââ¬â¢s opening also foreshadows the rest of the play, as the setting begins the continual challenge of the institutional idea of human purpose, as it accentuates the lack of meaning - an idea also extended by the characters. When Estragon struggles to take off his boot, he mutters ââ¬Å"Nothing to be doneâ⬠, which Vladimir mistakes for existential discourse and replies with ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m beginning to come around to that opinion. All my life Iââ¬â¢ve put it from me.â⬠Beckett uses verbal irony to show how the most simple statement could be mistaken as a philosophical pondering on existence, which in-turn is designed to pose the question of whether individuals truly have an essence. Similarly, Kubrick uses absurdist humour to force a questioning of what had been the bedrock of the western world: the political s phere. President Muffley, himself named after pubic hair wigs, attempts to avert atomic bombs being dropped on Russia and desperately calls the Chairman of the USSR. However he proceeds to waste time commenting on the good phone connection,

Wife Of His Youth Essays - The Wife Of His Youth, Discrimination
Wife Of His Youth People often make the categories of race, class, gender, sexuality, age, physical condition, etc., contend for the title of most oppressed. Within"race," various populations groups then compete for that top spot. Through the book, The Wife of His Youth, by Charles Wadell Chesnutt one can learn that racism existed within the "race," colored mattered, and that racism evolves throughout the racial history. Racism existed within the race. People within the groups competed to be at the top. In The Wife of His Youth, the main character Mr. Ryder is a highly respected man in his society called the Blue Veins. The Blue Veins is a society for the colored people who have white skin that their veins show. Mr. Ryder is faced with a situation where he has to choose to stay at the top by hiding the truth and marrying a highly respected woman in the Blue Veins, Mrs. Molly Dixon or reveal his secret and be married to a woman who is considered low among the races. However Mr. Ryder chooses to reveal that a former slave is his wife, but in order for him to come to the conclusion he struggles much about how the others would feel about this situation because mostly likely people of his society would look down upon him. Color matters within the race. In The Wife of His Youth, the Blue Veins is a society that does not emphasize culture of the race, but how light the color of their skins are. The people of the society must have really light skin to be even considered to be a member of the Blue Veins. The wife of his youth, a former slave, Liza Jane would never be considered to be a member of the Blue Veins because she was very black and her social status in society was of a former plantation worker. One could also see that Mr. Ryder struggles whether or not to reveal his secret to the Blue Veins because colored mattered and he did not know if they would be able to accept the fact that he was married to his ugly black woman. In addition, Mr. Ryder had to somehow gain recognition from the Blue Veins that it was okay to have a wife outside the approval of the race, the society. He asks, "Shall you acknowledge her?" (p. 56) He wait for their nod of some kind of positive reaction. Racism evolves; it has no single, permanently fixed set of characteristics. Racism is not a set theory in the minds of the people, but instead a theory that constantly changes according to the time and the needs of the environment. Mr. Ryder in the Blue Veins who was in a high position who accepted only the light-colored is able to reconsider his status for the wife of his youth. He was able to persuade the Blue Veins so that the wife of his youth can be accepted in the society. Also by reading The Wife of His Youth, one knows that Mr. Ryder was a former slave, too who just happens to be free and of high status at the present moment. After he becomes "a someone" in society he wishes to forget about his past until the wife of his youth comes along his path and makes his decide, truth or fame. Through the book, The Wife of His Youth, one can learn that racism existed within the "race," colored mattered, and that racism evolves. The challenge is to understand the changes of racial history and draw strength from our understandings. Also today one has to acknowledge the fact that other races exist, not only blacks. In doing so, one has to proceed with both boldness and infinite care. Talking race is an intellectual minefield; for every social observation, one can find three contradictions and four necessary qualifications. Crawling through the complexity, it helps to think: "keep your eye on the prize, which is uniting against the monster."

The Economy of China (Globalization Effect) Essays
The Economy of China (Globalization Effect) Essays The Economy of China (Globalization Effect) Essay The Economy of China (Globalization Effect) Essay Research Essay Lewis Carroll The effects of globalisation on Economic growth and the quality of life in China. China holds the second largest economy in the world, measured by Purchasing Power Parity (a technique used to determine and compare the relative value of different currencies). From the late 1970s, the Chinese economy has become more market orientated, rather than its former closed and planned political system. This change has played a major role in the development of their economy and impact of globalisation. At present, it is the worlds fastest growing major economy. Growth ates in the Chinese economy have averaged 10% throughout the past 30 years. By utilising Chinas perfect environment for manufacturing with low minimum income levels compared to other countries, and little to no policies surrounding work place health and safety, in 2010 China became the worlds largest exporter. In 2010, 19. 8% of the worlds manufacturing output was produced by China, and Industry and Manufacturing account for 46. 8% of Chinas GDP. Apart from the thriving Manufacturing industry, China also produces 45% of the worlds steel and is the worlds third largest Automotive Manufacturer. Over recent years, Chinas Urban wages have received a 13-19% increase to an average of $2472USDp. a. The Chinese Economy has gained both benefit and been disadvantaged by globalisation trends. One advantage is China has received extensive amounts of high GDP over recent years, although it sometimes due to the over exploitation of their unbelievably cheap labour compared to other countries. China has become almost an essential to the global supply chain because of its cheap labour leading to the massive growth we have seen over recent years. Other Positive effects of globalisation include the mprovement of living standards due to higher employment and therefore larger income and contribution to the economy. The amount of employment in china has increased due to the rise in growth and creation of TNCs and movement of production due to globalisation. This means that in order to meet demands, they need to create more Jobs which is suited best in China because of low minimum income levels Negative effects of Globalisation on China include environmental changes and urbanisation. The Chinese Environment has been damaged due to rapid pollution and industrialisation consequences. The growth of industries pecializing in manufacturing has caused the pollution of the air, ground and permanent damage on the surroundings of these factories due to production processes such as burning or pollution from capital goods. The growth of urbanisation was a result after the rapid increase in Jobs around cities, but this can also lead to the lowering of standards of living and the amount of Jobs and resources available elsewhere. The urban cities are unable to provide necessities and services the population need. By the end of 2012 52. 6% of the Chinese population had become urbanised, an increase from the former 26% in 1990 . Although currently, the ities cannot provide for the amount of people urbanising, the government has aimed to create services, increase availability of necessities and support a range of mass transit around and inside the city as a part of their 5-year-plan for 2011-2015. lowest income earners and reduce homelessness. Another problem with this sudden spark in urbanisation is the lowering of workplace safety regulations yet to be created. The people are working in factories with very poor standards which reduce hygiene and can also cause mental issues such as suicides. The Chinese Economy has implemented particular strategies in order to promote and stabilize the conomic growth and development they have received. These policies and strategies are a result of increasing demand because of globalisation in China. The introduction of the Open door policy (essential opening china into a mass of once protected foreign direct investment) created a huge utilisation of Chinese labour. Chinese capital and labour resources have become efficiently allocated, which then has greatly boosted economic growth and productivity. The Chinese economy then strategically utilised their obvious comparative advantage in export orientated and labour intensive industries. The Chinese Economys rapid growth is due to creation of particular strategies such us export Incentives and decentralisation of government. Export Incentives are monetary, tax or legal motivations designed to encourage businesses to export certain types of goods or services. This large labour force, huge investments in efficient technology and the introduction of subsidies and incentives have created the perfect environment for mass growth of this emerging economy. Chinese exporting alone has generated up to a staggering 36 per cent of Chinas GDP (2006). Since the Decentralization of Government (the process of redistributing, owers, people or things away from the government) the Chinese GDP per capita has risen from its previous $674 in 1978 to $5,085 in 2004 (ppp adjusted). That is over 7 and a half times greater than the previous recording. This change in government, liberalization of prices, reduction in agriculture resources, and integration into world markets, had proved to be a major cause of the Chinese economic boom over the past 30 years beginning with the open door policy The use of Special Economic Zones in china created an ability to alter the policies and investments in areas suited. For example, lower taxes and lower tariffs and other protection policies were introduced in order to encourage the exportation of technology. Their immediate success fuelled the way for more specific zones in order to utilise the economic boom they were currently experiencing. The implementations of a practise known as the household responsibility system was a specific quota for agricultural demand created by the government in order to remain self-sufficient in agricultural goods, but continue to redistribute their resources to other more profitable and efficient areas. The farmers and producers were given compensation for completing these merit goods that compared to other industrialised productions, were not very profitable. These strategies allowed the Chinese people and economy to thrive during economic boom but also increase their standard of living. The Chinese Government has introduced a way to change economic strategies and policies in order to relate to the current economic activities. This plan is called the 5-year-plan, a set of policies that have to remain active for the remaining 5 years until they are reassessed for the new economic activities. This 5 year plan applies for all regions of china, and is used in order to map strategies for economic development, setting growth targets, and launching reforms. The 12th 5 year plan (2011-2015) outlines their planned building of new low-income apartments to reduce poverty and increase the standard of living for the Chinese Population. The policies can also aim to stabilize their current growth, make incomes more equal and improve social infrastructure. The Chinese government believe that the increase of employment and reduction in unemployed population is the top priority to create stability in their rapidly growing conomy. By the end of 2005, the registered unemployment population in urban areas reached 8. 39 million, and the registered unemployment rate in the urban areas was 4. 2 per cent. In order to counteract the growing unemployment, The Chinese Government applied structural Proactive employment Policies in order to create incentive and encourage unemployed members of the Chinese population to look, create, or innovate their own employment These practises were used to promote the economic growth but also increase the poor standard of living in China. These included: 1. Encouraging the unemployed to start up their own businesses. Reducing taxes and charges, plus small loans with discounted interests created a perfect environment and incentive for the Chinese unemployed to stimulate the economy and its growth. 2. Exempting and reducing taxes on enterprises willing to employ disadvantaged unemployed people. 3. Offering particular insurance subsidies for flexible employment terms. Evaluation of Economic Growth and development Strategies: Strategies used by the Chinese Government are all aimed to create, stabilise and promote growth of the Economy and the quality of life of the Chinese people. The Open Door policy has unlocked the swift growth of the Chinese Economy by allowing the flooding of Foreign Direct Investment. With an increase of Chinas GDP per capita from $153 to $1284 , this single indicator outlines the success of opening China to Foreign Direct Investment. The open door policy has also created an opening for greater employment, income and therefore better living standards for the Chinese population. This is because the open door policy allows more TNCs and large enterprises to base their factories and outlets around the Chinese population. Export nd business incentives have also fuelled a large amount of success though the encouragement of reaching the technical optimum in economies of scale, and employing more people, once again, creating more Jobs and increasing living standards of the Chinese population. The Decentralization from government is a strategy that started the growth they have received and the increase of economic development in China. Through this decentralization, the redistribution of income and resources has unlocked the flood for foreign direct investment, creation of employment and increased the living standards of the population. The 5 year plan as fulfilled its potential by maintaining the economic stability of china, whilst still creating growth. Through the increase of GDP, employment rates, and living standards of the Chinese population, it is obvious that the changing of political policies and goals have succeeded in guiding the Chinese economies growth. This planning allowed the government to change into a market orientated system whilst still keeping the benefits of planning goals, rates and living standards to predict the future of the Chinese economy. The strategies under the Proactive employment unemployment and increasing the living standards of the Chinese population. Not only has the policies reduced the people unemployed, but they also can be used to raise the minimum income. Overall, the effects of globalisation on economic growth and the quality of life in china have been mostly benefiting. Through the introduction of new employment, high income and standards of living, and the decentralization of the Chinese government, China continues to gain expediential growth over any other country in the world. The industrialisation of China has proven to be a crucial time for reassessing political strategies and adding policies to benefit the Chinese population.

The Audit Expectations Gap Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The Audit Expectations Gap - Essay Example Essentially, the basic issue was not fraud detection by the auditors but the alleged act of in concealment which done the damage. Nevertheless, there is still no conclusive empirical evidence in the literature about whether and how auditing mechanisms influence the performance and the value of the firms; and, about how these mechanisms interact (in a complementary or substitute way) (Bohern and Odegaard, 2003). There are no hard and fast rules for auditing, which can be prescribed for all the countries. These rules can be different for different countries according to their needs and cultural settings. According to ICAEW (2002) with all the contrasts present in the rules and regulations of different countries emphasis is given to generic auditing principles of responsibility, accountability, transparency and fairness. Accountability of the board to shareholders who have the right to receive information on the financial stewardship of their investment and exercise power to reward or remove the directors entrusted to run the company. Transparency of clear information with which meaningful analysis of a company and its actions can be made. The disclosure of financial and operational information and internal processes of management oversight and control enable outsiders to understand the organisation. Fairness that all shareholders are treated equally and have the opportunity for redress for violation of their rights. According to Meigs et al. (1999) this information meets the needs of users of the information-investors. Creditors, managers, and so on-and support many kinds of financial decision performance evaluation and capital allocation, among others. (P.07) In case of Enron as mentioned by Vinten all the above mentioned rules were broken by the governing bodies. The management of the corporation resolutely focused on maximising profits and a 'legal obligation to act in the best interests of its shareholders. By and large, this excluded the corporation to act ethically or socially responsibly'(Slapper and Tombs, 1999). (Shah, 2002) states that some Trans-national corporations make more in sales than the GDPs (Gross Domestic Product) of many countries. In fact, of the 100 hundred wealthiest bodies, 51 percent are owned by corporations. While this can be seen as a success story from some viewpoints, others suggest that these and other large corporations are largely unaccountable for the many social and environmental problems that they leave in their wake, and that their size means that their effects are considerable. The multinational corporations who naturally have vested interests in international development and trade policies (like any group) are able to deploy enormous financial resources in an attempt to get favourable outcomes. The political power that is therefore held by such a small number of people impacts the planet significantly. As a result a few of these corporations make up some of the most influential sources of political and economic

The Future of Japanese Economy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
The Future of Japanese Economy - Essay Example of economic crisis like financial panic of 1927 and the oil shock, include the invasion of Manchuria in 1931, the attack on Capitalism during 1930s, war with China from 1937 to 1941, Pacific war in 1946, the Dodge line of 1949, recession of 1965 are the common examples of depression that Japan encountered other than World War II2. Though, very soon they recovered it with 10% average of economic growth in 1960s, 5% during 1970s and closer to 4% in 1980s, but after that, growth slowed down remarkably3. Strong working mentality, good government-industry relationship and implementation of advanced technology were the most favorable reasons responsible for making Japan stand on to the platform of one of the largest economy in the world from post WWII till 80s. Resultant of overinvestment in late 80s and crisis in world oil supply brought another challenge to their economy4. It became necessary for Japan to switch from mobilized productionism to more substantial welfare economy. However, t he oscillation between successful drive of the export in late 80s and bang in economy after 80s hazed that requirement and mobilized economic system disappeared very soon5. After the fading away of stock inflation and land prices, an excess of production capacity remained. This factor lowered the profitability of the production and on the other hand, bad loan weakened the financial activity. Governmentââ¬â¢s effort in recovering that downfall was not up to that level and itââ¬â¢s clear from the statistics of economy for the duration of 2000-20016. Hence, it is inferred that Japan is in a state of distorted industrial policy and in urgent need of a revolution. The main aim of this paper is to address the main obstacles that Japan is facing and then to state the possible solutions to overcome them. Japan is facing resistances now-a-days that it had never encountered before. Growth rate which used to be in two digit figure just after war, now expectation growth is below 1% which is too

Income Distribution Essay Example for Free
Income Distribution Essay The total wage of a private sector worker is of US$137, 9 dollars per month; as it is considered that in each family has other income, and the minimum income per family will be of 224 dollars per month. This wage allows family to buy 67% of the basic basket, it is to say a little more than half of all necessary articles, and a restriction of 33% in the consumption of basic articles exists. The dolarization did not mean a revaluation of the wage as the government raised, it rather constituted a cut of the income, since the prices of goods and services were internationalized, while the wages stay depressed, in relation to the life cost. The concentration of wealth and work in Ecuador is acute; 1. The 2 % belonging to the poorest receive 0,015% of the national entrance, and they gain 1270 times less than the wealthier 2% of the population. 2. The 20% belonging to the wealthier receive 58,7% of the national entrance. Poverty: The accumulation of wealth in the hands of the monopolistic groups has like counterpart the poverty and the extreme poverty for the majority of Ecuadorians. In Ecuador the poverty borders 80% of the population and from these, 20% are in extreme poverty. Poverty in Ecuador has a structural character and a massive incidence. It is structural because historically the economic conditions have been created, socially and politically to consign to a great number of the population of its participation in the production and wealth of the country. That is to say, in Ecuador the poverty is not a consequence of the lack of resources or natural wealth but to the form in which the Earth property and other resources have been, and in the relations of dependency with the central capitalist countries. From year 2002 the situation has been more difficult still, the inflation rate (91%), the percentage of the General Budget that the government destined for the payment of the external debt (51%) caused greater poverty. In 2003 the amount that the state will destine for the payment of the external debt, will be of 2. 200 million dollars. CONCLUSION The present essay has studied the historical evolution, present situation and perspective to medium term of the Ecuadorian external debt. We can make a synthesis of the most important aspects of the mentioned analysis, which will allow us to verify the validity of the question posed. The use of external resources with aims of current consumption, mainly on the part of the governmental sector, has been one of the main causes so that the productivity of the outer finance is limited. The loans produce little or no finance and it causes economic yield in the increase of current expenses, which has given rise to the countries finances consumption on the basis of the external saving, and the weight of the debt for the following years was loaded. On the other hand, the elevated rate of triggered internal inflation as of 1990, took place partly due to the funding of the originating resources of the outside by concept of external loans that, through the global budget of the state, entered circulating means. In addition, the high cost of the loans, by the majority including banking credits, in the last years has determined the rate of yield of the capital for the projects financed with external contribution, must be sufficiently high, so that it reaches a greater level than the cost of the external indebtedness. The increase of the imports, mainly as of 1990, has also been a factor affecting the trade balance; therefore it has been necessary to obtain free currencies to pay these external obligations. This growth of imports has been due to a great extent in dependency of the national manufacturing industry, of the capital assets and foreign raw materials. The country has been unable to obtain adequate levels of resource surplus, as a percentage of exports, given the prevailing conditions of export growth and was required to decrease the growth rate of its external debt over time. Even though credit from multilateral is the only source of financing available, it is clear that there is a lack of planning of investment projects. The United States eliminated government funds due to problems of political nature, principally due to the fact that the country has an income per capita of US $ 360 annual. The debt of the private sector has a determining incidence in the deterioration of the balance of payments, although it does not cause a financial load when one is originating currencies of exports, in order to cancel the service of this debt, in 1995 the service of the same one will represent approximately, 8. 5 % of exports of goods and services, whereas for 1998, that relation will raise 12%, level that we considered alarming if it is taken into account that this index, for service of the debt in the public sector, will be, of 20% in 1998. It is evident that the existing legislation in Ecuador, on the administration of the indebtedness, has been a very important factor in the decisions that have been adopted in matter of policy of external financing, although the cases have not been few in which the government has made decisions from economic order moving away of the effective legal procedures, reason why the control problem of the Ecuadorian outer debt is deduced, as a lack of exact fulfillment of the law. The policy of the external indebtedness, from the economic and legal point of view, has had faults as much in its application as in its fulfillment, cause of which the external resources entered the country to finance their way, they do not have an optimal use, specific and productive, and on the contrary they have meant at certain moment a serious limiting economic growth for the country. Therefore we can firmly say: that the external debt has had an impact In Ecuadors Economic development.

Cyber Culture: The Future of Print Essay -- Technology Literature Essa
When we think of technology, what often comes to mind are televisions, communications devices such as cell phones and satellites, computers, and different modes of transportation. However, there are other ways in which technology is applied, one of those being the Internet and its various components including email, chat rooms, and search engines. The list of uses for the Internet is innumerable and many corporations and universities are forcing people to make use of it. But no matter how much this new technology is forced on us, people are still resistant to it. As George Landow, Professor of English and Art History at Brown University, states, "Technology, in the lexicon of many humanists, generally means 'only that technology of which I am frightened'" (Landow 218). Such resistance is unfortunate because the generation of online technology is here. Whether we have accepted it or not we are "twenty minutes into the future" (Landow 214). Books are no longer the sole resource for inf ormation gathering and communicating. A whole new system for conveying information has taken place. "In many ways, we have, for better or worse, already moved beyond the book. Even on the crudest, most materialist standard involving financial returns, we no longer find it at the center of our culture as the primary means of recording and disseminating information and entertainment" (Landow 215). Cyber culture, particularly Internet phenomenons such as online journals and email, have enhanced the way we work with writing and changed the way we write. For instance, references such as online journals and magazines have facilitated researchers in numerous ways. EMU's online database alone contains a library of information on topics ranging from busines... ...w technology called cyber culture, Landow makes a very good point when he says ââ¬Å"Digital technology may be new, but technology, particularly information technology, has permeated all known culture since the beginnings of human history (218). Cyber culture is here to stay and can be very effective in communication, research, and writing; the challenge now, is to close the generational gap between those who have embraced cyber culture and those who still resist it. Explain Augustineââ¬â¢s temporal paradox
Augustineââ¬â¢s temporal paradox can be explained by starting with our typical beliefs about time, to wit: the past does not exist, the future is yet to exist and only the present actually exists.à However the actual existence of the present has no duration because it immediately becomes the past or the future the moment we try to isolate it. In the words of St. Augustine, ââ¬Å"The present hath no spaceâ⬠.à The temporal paradox refers to the existence only of the present which however does not have a ââ¬Å"durationâ⬠.Following this temporal paradox and Augustine treated time in ontological terms, i.e. in relation to the nature of being and existence.à We derive the notion of time by perceiving something that has passed, something that exists and something that will exist in the future.à Time is embodied and manifested through the duration of things that come into being to the present that passed away in an incessant continuum of past and future.à Conseq uently, material things move from none existence to existence to non existence (past, present and future). The perpetuation of the time continuum entails that ââ¬Å"the mind expects, and attends, and remembers, so that what it expects passes by way of what it attends to into what it remembers.â⬠(Augustine, 2002, p236) What the mind expects is the future, what is remembers is the past and what it attends to at the moment is the present, which is what exists. à Attending to the present does not refer to our location or inhabitance in this time continuum but oneââ¬â¢s capturing of the immediate past in the memory. This is precisely because the present has no duration or no space and it is only through memory that we can attend to it.For St. Augustine, even ââ¬Å"timeâ⬠is created by God and therefore he is beyond the continuum of the time series to which people and all other things are bound. à God is in a state of ââ¬Å"Eternal Nowâ⬠, where the present, past a nd future are at all once.à However, while St. Augustineââ¬â¢s idea of time is very revolutionary, it nevertheless has critical repercussions that run inconsistent which Christian principles which he originally wanted to justify and defend. With the past and future all happening in the present for God, people therefore are already predestined to what will happen to them. People were not really given the gift of choice or freewill but are doomed to end up to how God have designed their world. What seemed to be a series of choices for people in this space of time is actually a finished or done design for God.à (Von Martelsand Schmidt, V, 2003, p79-102)2-Imagine that Russell and Berkeley are sitting across from each other at table. Write a short dialogue (about 500 words) that captures each philosopherââ¬â¢s views with respect to the ontological status of the table. Be sure to bring out areas of agreement and disagreementIn order to appreciate Bishop Berkeley, one must first fully understand that ontology focuses on the nature of essence and meaning of being. Berkeley is a major proponent of subjective idealism in which ultimately argues that the world including all the material objects are not real but are mere collections of perceptions of human experience, which is what is real.à It highlights that significance of mind before matter and the preordained connection of mind and body.Thinking is function that people constantly do, consciously, unconsciously or subconsciously in relating to their environment.à The mind is essential to be considered in understanding the nature of the universe because everything entailed the consciousness of the mind.à Thus, the universe is the product of the mind. (Bourgeois, 2003, 162-163)Berkeley will not deny that the table being observed is definitely real but it needs to be subjected to oneââ¬â¢s consciousness before we know it is real.à Moreover, the real essence of the table or that which makes a tab le what it is resides in the ââ¬Å"ideaâ⬠of the table which is in the mind of God.à It does not rest on the ââ¬Å"physical tableâ⬠which we perceived because our experiences of the table vary.à While we see the table is brown, solid and smooth, our experience of the brownness, solidness or smoothness of the table differs. There is a disparity between what at we perceiveâ⬠and ââ¬Å"what is realâ⬠.Russell agrees with Berkeleyââ¬â¢s idea that the act of perception is dependent on the mind but the mind is only the mental functioning of the brain hence, the perceptions therefore do not actually exist in the mind. à We only get to have a mental idea of what a table is through our perception of the physical table. à Perception is the prime source of knowledge (Engel, S., 2001, p 250-260).Knowledge is mainly based on the acquisition, interpretation, selection and organization of information what we perceive.à In Bertrand Russellââ¬â¢s own words, à ¢â¬Å"our ideas are derived from two sources, sensation, and perception of the operation of our own mind, which may be called internal senseâ⬠. (Russell, 2004, p556) Hence, we form our idea of table from the perception. This approximation of what reality through our senses, despite differences in the intensity of what brownness, solidness and smoothness of the table is real knowledge we can establish by observation and generalization. Incidentally, this is the underlying philosophy of science. In the end, we gain our knowledge about the ââ¬Å"tableâ⬠not from an innate idea of a table but through an observation of the table. We know that a table is brown, solid and smooth, irregardless of the intensity of these descriptions from different people. ââ¬Å"Perception is the first step and degree towards knowledge and the inlet of all the materials in itâ⬠. (Russel, 2004, p556) And that is what is real regardless of the ideal table that we can conceive.ReferencesAugustine and Outler, A. (2002). The Confessions of St. Augustine. Compulsive Gambling Is The Presence Of Withdrawal - 777 Words
One aspect common in most addictions and not in compulsive gambling is the presence of withdrawal. Some gamblers do claim they experience withdrawal symptoms. Rosenthal and Lesieur (1992) conducted a study on self-reported withdrawal symptoms of gambling. The study consisted of 222 participants. Sixty-five percent of participants reported experiencing at least one of the following: insomnia, headaches, upset stomach, loss of appetite, physical weakness, palpitations, shaking, cramps, difficulty breathing, sweats, and a chill or fever. Along with, 91% of participants claiming they experienced cravings (Rosenthal Lesieur, 1992). Despite previous expectations none of the symptoms reported in the study corresponded with gender, type of gambling, extent of alcohol or drug use while gambling, of self-described alcoholism or drug addiction (Rosenthal Lesieur, 1992). Orford, Morison, and Somers (1996) did a study which compared 16 problem drinkers and16 problem gamblers. The results of the study showed alcoholics and gamblers were equally attached to their habit. The study found gambling was maintained as a result of recurring processes involving prominent, negative feelings associated with gambling losses, shortage of money, and the need to keep gambling a secret (Orford et. al, 1996). However, the study also found alcoholics scored higher on the severity of dependence scale.
